The Global Democracy Coalition has designated March 27, 2023 to be commemorated as the Partners for Democracy Day. The day is an independent initiative that will bring together a global multi-stakeholder coalition for democracy through dialogues and events held throughout the world.

The aim of Partners for Democracy Day is to provide a platform for civil society, international organizations, academic institutions, think-tanks, philanthropic organizations, and the private sector, that may not be part of the official Summit for Democracy convening, but that want to make their voices heard in the Summit discussions and in the global democracy debate.

Pro-democracy civil society organisations in Africa, coordinated by the African chapters of members of the Global Coalition for Democracy and other actors, propose to stage a Pre-Summit for Democracy Civil Society Forum in Lusaka.

It will be an opportunity for civil society to shape and share their aspirations around the nature and form of democratization, how to make it deliver socio-economically, and push back on resurgent authoritarianism on the continent.

On 29-30 March 2023, President Biden will co-host the second Summit for Democracy with the governments of Costa Rica, the Netherlands, Republic of Korea, and Republic of Zambia. This is the second Summit for Democracy aimed to build a broader community of partners committed to global democratic renewal.
